LIVE M60 traffic as police incident forces motorway to shut in BOTH directions - updates
The M60 has been closed in both direction due to a police incident this evening (October 16).
The motorway is currently shut between junction 22 for Oldham and junction 23 for Ashton-under-Lyne.
Diversions are in place and police and traffic officers from National Highways are on scene assisting with traffic management. The nature of the incident is not yet clear.

However, the closure is causing queues back to junction J24 for Denton Island for traffic heading anticlockwise, and back to junction 21 for Hollinwood for traffic heading clockwise. Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for further information.

The M60 has now reopened in both directions.
All lanes have now reopened on the #M60 in both directions between J22 (Oldham) and J23 (Ashton Under Lyne) following the earlier Police incident.

The following diversions are in place as a result of the closure:
Road users are advised to follow the solid diamond diversion symbol on road signs if heading clockwise.
Road users are advised to follow the solid circle diversion symbol on road signs if heading anti-clockwise.
A section of the M60 is shut due to a "police-led incident" this evening.
