LIVE: Large cordon in place with police and paramedics at scene - latest updates

There is a large emergency service presence in Stockport this afternoon.

A cordon is currently in place on Piccadilly in Stockport town centre.

The road, which runs between Stockport Council building Stopford House and Stockport Magistrates Court, has been taped off.

A number of police vehicles are currently at the scene, along with an ambulance.

The nature of the incident is not yet clear.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have been approached for comment.

M.E.N reporter Declan Carey, who encountered the scene this afternoon, said there were four police cars and one police van present, as well as an ambulance.

There were three non-police cars inside the cordon, he said. The hazards lights of one were flashing, whilst another had its doors open
