LIVE: Large cordon around Morrisons with police and fire crews on scene - latest updates

A large cordon is in place around a Morrisons petrol station in Salford this morning after a 'gas leak'.

Police and fire crews are currently on the scene at the garage on Irwell Place in Eccles. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said crews are responding to reports of a LPG gas leak.

A 50m cordon has been put in place. Traffic is being diverted away from the area.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said:

“Just after 6.30am this morning (Wednesday 26 April) we were called to a petrol station at Irwell Place, Eccles, in response to reports of a suspected gas leak.

“Two fire engines from Salford and Eccles fire stations were quickly mobilised to the scene. Firefighters have been working alongside colleagues from Cadent to isolate equipment on the site and ensure the area is safe.

“Crews remain in attendance at this time."

A spokesperson for GMP said officers were called to the scene at around 6.59am this morning.

A 50m cordon is in place around the area. Officers are helping with traffic management on the scene.

GMFRS were called to a LPG gas leak.
