Manchester United transfer news LIVE - takeover updates and Marcus Rashford injury latest

Manchester United gave their hopes of being back in the Champions League next season a big boost after victory over Wolves on Saturday.

United beat the West Midlands side 2-0 at Old Trafford to open up a four-point gap between themselves and fifth-placed Liverpool. Anthony Martial and substitute Alejandro Garnacho struck either side of half-time to secure the three points for United but Marcus Rashford was forced to sit out the fixture due to injury.

Erik ten Hag's side have three games left of their Premier League season and went a step closer to being back in Europe's premier club competition with yesterday's win. United now have a free week to prepare for next Saturday's trip to Bournemouth.

United are level on points with third-placed Newcastle United as things stand and will be aiming to leapfrog the Magpies before the end of the campaign. Eddie Howe's men are ahead of Ten Hag's team on goal difference.

Off the pitch, there are other issues just as important as what is on it. The biggest of these is the continuing question of the club's ownership under the Glazer family and the potential of fresh owners buying the club.

And there is a big few months coming for United on the transfer front as ten Hag prepares for his second summer window at Old Trafford. He will be aiming to strengthen his squad to make it able to compete towards the top of the table and for the Premier League title.
