Delays of over an hour on M56 as roadworks cause chaos for second day running - latest updates

There are delays of over an hour on the M56 for the second day running as major roadworks. are again causing chaos. There is huge congestion on the eastbound stretch between the Runcorn and Chester junctions.

National Highways said they are the result of planned work to demolish the A533 Expressway Bridge.

They said: "There are delays of up to 60 minutes on the #M56 eastbound between J14 and J12 due to planned works taking place between J12 and J11 for the demolition of the #A533 Expressway Bridge.

Yesterday there were delays of over 40 minutes on the same stretch as the roadworks rail strikes and the Eurovision final in Liverpool leaving scores of frustrated motorists stuck.

We're advising road users to use alternative routes during the closures and avoid the area if possible. Long delays are expected.

The M56/A533 Expressway Bridge is a concrete bridge that carries the Chester Road combined with the A533 over the M56 motorway.
