LIVE: Hyde Road cordoned off after crash as 'elderly couple' left injured - updates

Hyde Road in Gorton is cordoned off this evening following a collision, with a large emergency services presence at the scene.

Police, paramedics and fire crews are in attendance beside Debdale Park following the crash, thought to have involved two vehicles. It is understood an elderly couple have been injured in the incident.

The main road is cordoned off at the junction with Debdale Lane, with buses diverted and people urged to avoid the area amid the ongoing incident.

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed they were called out shortly after 3pm. A large scene remains in place with the road closed in both directions.

Stagecoach posted to X: "Roads are awful tonight due to Hyde Road closing following a Police incident, all traffic is finding different ways through."

The latest update from AA says: "Road blocked and long delays due to crash on A57 Hyde Road Eastbound at Debdale Lane. Congestion to the A6010 Pottery Lane. A lane is also closed on the westbound side. Detour in operation - for bus route 201, 202 and 205 in both directions."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just after 3pm today two fire engines from Gorton fire station and the technical response unit from Ashton-Under-Lyne fire station attended a crash between two cars on Hyde Road, Denton.

“Firefighters supported colleagues from North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Police to make the scene safe. Crews were in attendance for around one hour.”

Greater Manchester Police have said an elderly couple, whose names are not known, have been rushed to hospital from the scene of the collision.
