LIVE Huge emergency services scene in place following 'gas explosion' in Clayton

A large emergency services scene is in place in east Manchester tonight (September 13) following reports of a suspected 'gas explosion'.

Police, firefighters, paramedics and workers from Cadent gas are at the scene on Schofield Street, just off Ashton New Road in Clayton. An air ambulance also landed on a nearby field.

Pictures from the scene show an end terrace house with damage to the front walls and windows. Witnesses report seeing paramedics treating a man who was 'walking and talking' before being taken to hospital.

Schofield Street is currently cordoned off. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Shortly before 6.30pm this evening, three fire engines from Phillips Park, Blackley and Gorton fire stations were called to an incident involving a terraced house on Coatbridge Street, Manchester.

“Firefighters are working alongside Greater Manchester Police, North West Ambulance Service and Cadent Gas to make the area safe. They remain in attendance at this time.”
