LIVE: 'Gridlocked traffic' into Manchester city centre with emergency services at scene of crash

There is 'gridlocked traffic' going into Manchester city centre this evening following a collision involving two vehicles. A taxi has been left with crushed doors after the collision on Great Ancoats Street.

A large emergency services presence is in attendance, with police and fire crews blocking the main road at the junction with Every Street.

Traffic is continuing to build currently with the road blocked off in both directions, causing long delays for those travelling in, and out of the city centre.

Further details about the ongoing collision have not yet been confirmed, but Greater Manchester Police and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for information.

This is a live incident. Updates to follow.

The incident has now cleared. This marks the end of our live coverage this evening.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Shortly after 7.55pm this evening (Wednesday, 15 May), two fire engines from Gorton fire station were called to attend a road traffic collision involving two cars on Every Street, Manchester.

“Crews arrived quickly and used specialist equipment to isolate both car batteries and make the area safe. One casualty was assessed by North West Ambulance Service at the scene for minor injuries.

“Firefighters departed after approximately 30 minutes in attendance.”

Here are some more pictures from the scene this evening.

Paramedics, police and fire crews remain in attendance.

Due to its central location and both sides of the carriageway being blocked, delays remain in and around the city centre.
