Several schools in Greater Manchester have been forced to close today after heavy snowfall across the region.
Residents woke up to a blanket of the white stuff this morning (Tuesday) after temperatures plummeted to below freezing overnight. According to the Met Office, 'heavy snow' could continue to fall from around 7am with snow showers forecast until around 10am this morning.
A yellow snow and ice warning came into force at midnight and will last all day today. Forecasters predict that 'further snow showers, perhaps merging into a longer spell of snow, are likely to cause further disruption on Tuesday'.

The mercury dropped to as low as -5C in some areas overnight. Freezing temperatures will continue this morning before the mercury rises to around 4C this afternoon.
In a social media post, Philips High School, in Whitefield, said it had been forced to closed due to the "severe weather conditions".
Meanwhile, St Peter's Catholic High School in Wigan also announced it will be closed due to the "worsening conditions", adding that it "will struggle to staff school".
More schools are expected to announce closures across the morning.
