Vikki Wall makes debut as Ireland Sevens reach semi-final in Perth
Former Meath footballer Vikki Wall made her Ireland Sevens debut as Allan Temple-Jones' side booked a semi-final place at the HSBC SVNS Series in Perth.
Wall, who won back-to-back All-Ireland medals in 2021 and 2022, played the first half of the team's 26-7 pool victory over Japan, in which Béibhinn Parsons scored a hat-trick, this morning.
The 25-year-old joined the Sevens programme last year with a view to earning a place in the Olympics squad.
Tries from Eve Higgins and Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe helped Ireland to a 14-12 win over Fiji in the quarter-final and sets up a semi-final with Great Britain (4.22am Irish time Sunday).
Yesterday, Ireland beat USA (19-14) and lost to New Zealand (21-14).
Ireland had finished sixth and seventh in the opening two legs of the season.
Meanwhile, the Ireland men also reached the semi-finals after pool wins over Great Britain (17-12) and Australia (19-10) and a quarter-final success over France (21-14).
James Topping's side will play Argentina on Sunday morning (5.10am).
