LIVE: Emergency service response in Uppermill after reports of car entering river

A major emergency services presence has been scrambled to Uppermill this evening, with an air ambulance also landing at the scene.

The A670 High Street was blocked off near to Ryefields Drive as fire crews, police and paramedics, as well as incident response units were called out to the scene.

It followed reports that a vehicle had entered a nearby river. Photos shared to social media showed the major response with a number of vehicles parked along High Street.

Greater Manchester Police and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for more details.

An air ambulance landed at Uppermill Cricket Club this evening.

It is understood the woman was taken to hospital by road ambulance after being carried up from the scene on a stretcher.

A footpath off Ryefields Drive remains cordoned off this evening.

Police are also still at the scene following the earlier incident.

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have just confirmed that a woman has been rushed to hospital after being rescued from a car.

Crews received reports a car had been 'driven into a river' off Ryefields Drive.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 5.30pm this evening (Monday 26th February), two fire engines from Oldham and Mossley fire station, along with the Technical Response Unit from Ashton, were called to reports of a car driving into the river on Ryefields Drive, Uppermill.

“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. A woman who was in the vehicle was assessed at the scene by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service. Firefighters worked with colleagues from North West Ambulance service to establish a safe route for the
