Liam Gallagher reaches out with three-word message to surprise Man City transfer target

Oasis singer and Manchester City fan Liam Gallagher has responded to reports linking Ilkay Gundogan with a return to the Etihad Stadium.

It has recently been reported that City have contacted the midfielder's camp over a potential return after just one season at Barcelona. It is said that the Catalans want him to leave with offers coming from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Gundogan left City last summer after seven years to join Barca on a free transfer. The 33-year-old played a key role in City's treble-winning campaign during his final season at the club but has been unable to have the same impact in Spain having failed to win a trophy.

The German has made 51 appearances across all competitions for Barca, scoring five goals and providing 14 assists. But with his future in Catalonia now uncertain and amid links of a return to City, Gallagher has responded on X, formerly known as Twitter. "COME HOME ILKAY," he said.

Gundogan was an extremely popular player at City where he won five Premier League titles. Moving back to Manchester however, it would be a surprise with the reigning English champions tending to sign younger players who Pep Guardiola can mould and develop into world beaters.

There is no doubt however that Gundogan holds City in high esteem. "For me, it has been a total privilege and pleasure to be part of Manchester City for the last seven years," he told the club's official website after his departure was announced.
