Liam Gallagher blue plaque STOLEN from Lidl supermarket in Manchester
A Greater Manchester supermarket has appealed for the public’s help in tracking down a blue plaque dedicated to Liam Gallagher after it was stolen from its walls earlier this week.
Earlier this year, the Lidl supermarket in Newton Heath, near Co-op Live, unveiled a blue plaque to the Oasis frontman after he went viral online with a joke that he would be performing at the supermarket.
In June, the singer simply posted ‘Gig in LIDL’ to his 3.6 million followers on X. The widely-shared post was met with memes and jokes from fans, with Lidl even chiming in themselves by posting: “We're gonna roll with it.”

But despite Liam failing to live up to his promise, the supermarket unveiled a plaque - a week before he performed at the near-by Co-op Live with his Definitely Maybe 30 tour - to say: “LIAM GALLAGHER, LEGEND ‘ALMOST PLAYED HERE’ JUNE 2024.”
However, more than five months on, the plaque has now gone missing - and Lidl wants it back. The sign had intended to remain on the exterior wall of the store indefinitely but was reported to have disappeared on Wednesday (November 27).
In an attempt to get it back, Lidl is now offering a £500 reward for its safe return which can be spent in-store. In a pun-laden statement, a Lidl spokesperson said: “With no leads as to its whereabouts, we are now issuing a plea to the public, hopeful that the iconic memento can find its way back home ahead of Christmas.
“Not one to look back in anger, we are embracing the season of generosity and offering a reward of £500 in Lidl vouchers for the plaque’s safe return. That’s a fair few half past three lasagna’s.”
