PETA gives Liam Gallagher award for adopting homeless dog from Thailand
Liam Gallagher has been given a special award by animal rights group, PETA, after he adopted a homeless dog and raised thousands for an animal charity.
The Oasis singer was handed the “Strike the Right Chord for Animals Award” for taking in a dog called Buttons from a sanctuary in Thailand last year.
Gallagher received a heartfelt letter of thanks and a framed certificate for his generosity. The Mancunian legend found Buttons via Happy Doggo sanctuary to the charity founder's shock.
Last year, dog rescuer Niall Harbison expressed his surprise at finding out that Liam had applied to fly Buttons nearly 6,000 miles (9,500km) to the UK.

After adopting Buttons, Liam went on to help raise £25,000 to help other dogs in Thailand. Thanks to his canine philanthropy, PETA has recognised Liam for his inspirational work with the prestigious ‘Strike the Right Chord for Animals Award’.
The Animal Rights group said: "Liam’s compassionate move comes at a time when animal shelters across the UK and elsewhere are reporting spiking numbers of animal abandonment cases.
"By opening his heart and home to a dog desperately in need of a loving family, Liam has set a wonderful example for his legions of fans unlike other out-of-touch celebrities who purchase “pedigree” breeds."
Accepting his award, a gracious Liam said: “Thanks for the Award. Rescuing Buttons has been the best decision we’ve ever made.
"She brings so much happiness to our lives and everyone she meets. We’re so lucky to have her; we’re obsessed. I thoroughly recommend adopting a homeless dog.”
