Leyton Orient make decision over Portsmouth's pre-season friendly with message for supporters

Portsmouth's pre-season game with Leyton Orient tomorrow will now take place behind closed doors.

Danny Cowley's Blues are set to continue their preparations for the 2022/23 campaign at Brisbane Road on Tuesday evening (7pm kick-off), with Pompey heading to east London for the game.

But with temperatures expected to reach as high as 40 degrees, Pompey have confirmed that the home side made the decision for the game to now take place behind closed doors after consulting with their safety advisory group.

Leyton Orient chief executive Mark Devlin said: “With spectator safety our highest priority, we have made the difficult decision to play the game behind closed doors. With Brisbane Road accessible mainly via public transport, the severe heat could have likely implications on those travelling to the game, as well as expected widespread delays.”

Orient have confirmed that they are offering a free stream of the game, but supporters will need to register for a One Orient account.

The match will be shown via the match centre on their website, with coverage beginning from 4.30pm.

Following this game, Pompey are due to face Bognor Regis Town on Wednesday, Coventry City at Fratton Park on Saturday and Barnet at The Hive next Tuesday, before the new League One season starts on Saturday, July 30, when the Blues head to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday.
