Lewis Hamilton retirement rumours as he returns to Canadian Grand Prix's first win scene

Retirement rumours are continuing to swirl as Lewis Hamilton returns to the scene of his first-ever Formula 1 win at the Canadian Grand Prix.

This season has not gone entirely to plan, with his Mercedes car struggling hugely with bouncing down the straight, causing the seven-time champion a bad back and severe pain.

Meanwhile, both the Red Bull and Ferrari teams are streaking clear at the front of the pack.

In the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix, Hamilton swept to a commanding victory in just his sixth ever race at the age of 22. Since then the talented Brit has gone on to win seven world drivers' championships, along with a record 103 wins, 183 podiums and 103 pole positions.

It is a reminder of what a Hamilton on form with the car under him really looks like, so some fans are wondering if the Brit will decide to pack things in at the end of the season.

Lewis Hamilton has said he currently has no plan to retire, despite his Mercedes team's poor form.

There was a huge amount of speculation after the controversial end to last season, in which then-race director Michael Masi made a decision that may well have cost Hamilton a record eighth title, as Dutch driver Max Verstappen swept past him on the last lap thanks to a safety car and fresh tires.

After a long delay, Hamilton eventually signed a new two-year contract, taking him to the end of 2024.

He told Sky Sports earlier this year: "There is nowhere else I want to be. Just because we have hit a rough patch, it is not in my DNA to back out.

"We can fix this. It is going to be a painful year that we are going to have to ride out together."
