Letham defender Stu Nicol netting double in weekend win comes as no surprise to manager Sean Whitworth

Centre-half Stuart Nicol chipped in with a double as Letham signed off their Midlands League home campaign with another three points.

Connor Galletly was also on the scoresheet in the 3-0 victory against Dundee St James at Seven Acres on Saturday afternoon.

While his main role is keeping teams out at the other end, manager Sean Whitworth was not shocked to watch man of the match Nicol find the back of the net twice.

“Stu played great on Saturday,” Whitworth told the Perthshire Advertiser. “He’s been a fantastic addition to the squad.

“His goals that he got were no surprise to me as I know what a threat he can carry when given the opportunity to go forward.

“I thought he was very much deserving of his man of the match award.”

Nicol had broken the deadlock in the 19th minute by turning in Andrew Mackenzie’s free-kick from wide on the left.

He would add his second moments into the second half when this time finishing from six yards out following a Dale Smart corner.

The points were well and truly wrapped up with 82 minutes on the clock. Aidan Edwards cut the ball back for Galletly who tapped into an unguarded net.

“I thought we played well throughout,” added Whitworth, whose side sit ninth in the standings. “We created a lot of chances and limited them to only a few.

“I was particularly delighted to keep a clean sheet as that is something we have not done in a while.

“St James have been on a really good run of results recently, so I’m really pleased with the performance and result.”

Scone Thistle again had heads turning in the Midlands League by welcoming high-flying Dundee North End and picking up a 2-1 win. Sean Hastie was at the double.
