Lessons to learn after Sheffield United served wake-up call in Coventry City defeat
Paul Heckingbottom says yesterday's 4-1 defeat at Coventry must act as a 'wake-up call' ahead of Wednesday night's trip to Blackpool.
The Blades boss watched on as Sheffield United were soundly beaten at the CBS Arena after a woeful second half display saw the home side run in three goals to secure a comfortable win.
Indeed, had it not been for Wes Foderingham, the scoreline could easily have been six or seven.
It was the worst display under Heckingbottom, with United all at sea at the back. The performance took everyone of a red and white persuasion by surprise, coming off the back of a splendid 4-1 win in midweek over promotion rivals Middlesbrough.
Those two performances were night and day.
Heckingbottom says there are lessons to be learned and he was unhappy with some aspects of his side's defending.
However, with only 10 games left in the season, United cannot dwell too much on what happened and must quickly turn their attention to Blackpool.
"I saw things in there that I had not seen from the players in terms of last season and this season," he said.
"Things that are really important to us as a team in terms of how we want to play with and without the ball. We will certainly look at that and understand why they are important to us.
"Things I didn't like, non negotiable things like where we show players, how we show them, where we tackle how we tackle and a lot of basic things, a reminder.
"We have spoken about it in there. It's not about finger pointing it's about us being better. There's only probably Wes who can hold his head up high.
"We will speak honest. It has got to be a wake-up call. We have got to see and learn from it.
"We have got to use it, but the good thing is in this league you have a game every
