3 things we clearly learnt about Sheffield United after their 0-0 draw v Blackpool

Paul Heckingbottom’s side drew 0-0 away from home against Blackpool on Wednesday evening.

This has put the side one point outside the top six places and in ninth in the Championship table.

It was a frustrating evening as United were unable to grab a good foothold in the game.

United were left fuming when a second half strike from Oli Norwood was ruled offside by the linesman.

The ball had come out to him on the edge of the box following a United corner, and his strike made it through a sea of bodies.

But a United player was adjudged to have been in Daniel Grimshaw’s line of sight from an offside position so the goal was ruled out.

That was the best chance of the night as Blackpool held the Blades to a 0-0 draw.

Here are three things we learned about United following this disappointing result.

Heckingbottom was without 11 players going into yesterday evening’s game through injury.

While Oli McBurnie declared himself fit despite suffering a dead leg just days prior in the 4-1 defeat to Coventry City, the other players were unable to make a comeback midweek.

That is a lot of players to be missing, regardless of their importance to the team.

But to be without such important players just compounds the difficulty of the situation for the team.

United could have used the likes of David McGoldrick or Rhian Brewster as they struggled to break down the Blackpool side.

That struggle bore fruit in the numbers quite clearly.

United had 11 shots on goal, but only two reached the target.

The Blades were left frustrated and resorted to far too many shots from long range that have a much lower chance of success.

The team needed great patience in possession as they looked to break through the stern Blackpool defence.
