Leona Maguire set to contest Women's Irish Open

Leona Maguire will be the star attraction at the KPMG Women's Irish Open next month as the the Ladies European Tour event returns after a 10-year hiatus.

Catriona Matthew topped the leaderboard at Killeen Castle a decade ago when the tournament was last contested, with Dromoland Castle the venue for this year's edition from 22-25 September.

Solheim Cup star Maguire currently finds herself occupying a career-high ranking of 16 in the world, thanks in no small part to her breakthrough victory in the LPGA Drive On Championship in Florida in February and top-10 finishes at the US Women's Open and the Women's Open.

Maguire serves as an ambassador for the sponsors, with her role with the Big Four outfit at least partly explaining her decision to swerve that week's $2.3m PGA Walmart NW Arkansas Championship in favour of her €400,000 home Open.

"I am very excited to play in this year's KPMG Women’s Irish Open at Dromoland Castle," Maguire told the LET official website.

"I have heard amazing things about what they are doing at Dromoland with their investment into the course and I cannot wait to play again in front of the Irish fans.

"See you all at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open in a few weeks."
