Leigh Bromby clarifies Danny Schofield role and explains Carlos Corberan's Huddersfield Town exit

Leigh Bromby says Carlos Corberan resigned as Huddersfield Town head coach because he didn't believe he could replicate the success of last season.

Town's head of football operations admits he was surprised by the timing of the decision - just three weeks before the start of the new Championship season - but reiterated there was "no fall-out" and Corberan and the club split on good terms.

Bromby spoke to the regional press via Zoom on Thursday afternoon, just hours after Corberan's shock departure was confirmed. Reports emerged on Thursday claiming the Terriers were eyeing up a move for MK Dons boss Liam Manning, but Bromby says Danny Schofield is "100%" a permanent appointment as head-coach, a role that he's been lined up for for the past two seasons.

Quizzed first on Corberan's exit, Bromby said: "In football you have to be prepared all the time. People will be surprised by the decision. Carlos has had a lot of success. It's been a great period, particularly last year, and we didn't want to lose Carlos. He's made a decision to leave the club and what we have to do now is prepare to move forward and be better than what we were last season.

"Within the club we always had to be prepared. This time was always going to come. Was the timing perfect? No because we have a game in three weeks. But we're in a position as a club to move forward.

"Ultimately Carlos is a really good man. The first person I employed was Carlos because I was really impressed by him. Ultimately he's a good person.

"He was honest with us and felt he couldn't replicate last season. There's definitely no fall-out. He felt he couldn't replicate last season. When someone stands in front of you and is really honest, you have to respect their decisions."
