Leicester City warned over the position they 'have to change' after Patson Daka started vs Newcastle

Leicester City have been warned that life after Jamie Vardy is "not going to be easy" by Jamie Redknapp as Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho have been deputizing for the stricken striker.

The 35-year-old has missed City 's last nine matches in all competitions over the last month after sustaining an MCL problem against Leeds United in early March. Vardy has featured in just four of the last 24 matches stretching back to mid-December.

Daka has been filling in for the ex- England international as of late in the league, starting against both Crystal Palace and Newcastle United also well as also coming off the bench in Eindhoven in midweek. Coming on in that game against PSV saw the Zambia international join Kelechi Iheanacho up front, who Brendan Rodgers has preferred in both legs of the Europa Conference League tie as well as the draw with Manchester United immediately after the March international break.

"Striker is a place they’re going to have to change," Redknapp said on Sky Sports' Super Sunday coverage. "What Jamie Vardy has done at that club, he’s a symbol.

"The success that they’ve had, how do you bring someone in? When is the right time? Time waits for no one.

"Jamie will be well-aware. This is probably the first time in his career that he’s suffered a few injuries.

"He’ll have to accept that there will be a challenge for his position. It’s not going to be easy because he’s such an incredible player."
