Leicester City semi-final opponents revealed as Brendan Rodgers and Jose Mourinho reunion set

Leicester City have belatedly found out their semi-final opponents and will be facing plenty of familiar faces over two legs as they take on Jose Mourinho's Roma side.

After completing their comeback against PSV Eindhoven in the final minutes of normal time, City were forced to wait some two hours to find out their opponents. The tie with PSV was the only one of the quarter-final second legs to kick off at the earlier time of 5:45pm, with the other three taking place at 8pm.

Despite trailing 2-1 from the first leg in Denmark, Roma ran out into an early 3-0 lead at the Stadio Olimpico in the return leg. Former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham opened the scoring after five minutes, and a brace from Nicolo Zaniolo made it three before the half-hour mark. The Italy international added a fourth to complete a hattrick early in the second half.

The two semi-final ties will mark the ninth and tenth meetings between Rodgers and Mourinho as opposition managers, and it's the latter coach who has the significant edge in head-to-head matches, winning five and drawing another two.

That doesn't quite tell the full story, though, as six of those were during their respective spells at Chelsea and Liverpool. Since Rodgers arrived in the East Midlands, it's a much more even outlook.

While the first meeting in the penultimate match of the 2019/20 season was a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur side, the City boss got revenge most recently. A goal from Jamie Vardy and an own goal from Toby Alderweireld put Leicester on course to a 2-0 win in December 2020.
