Leicester City players told to find new clubs with Brendan Rodgers unable to provide game-time

Leicester City players have been told they should find new clubs this summer because there will not be enough opportunities for them at the King Power Stadium next season.

Members of the City squad have been informed by manager Brendan Rodgers that, without European football, they will not get the game-time they perhaps desire. City can only finish as high as eighth in the Premier League table, and so will not compete on the continent for the first time in three seasons.

City have had 24 senior outfield players in their squad this season, and all of them have made at least a handful of starts, in part because of the injuries in the squad, but also through rotation, with the club's schedule heavy. City played 14 European games in total this campaign, and they will be absent from the calendar next year.

Knowing he will not be able to appease that number of players next term, Rodgers has begun to tell them they should seek new sides to continue their careers. He said: “It’s very difficult. I’ve already spoken to a number of players on that.

“We played 19 cup games this season, which is half of a season of games. Like what I’ve always done here, we’ll always give everything in the cups. But we’re a European competition down next season. It’s very difficult.

“The players’ behaviour and how they’ve focused over the course of the season has been great. But it’s always a challenge because players want to play, and if they’re not playing…
