Leicester City players given England incentive as Man United face double worry

Man United could be without both Paul Pagba and Raphael Varane for the visit of Leicester City after the international break. Both have been on international duty with France.

It is reported that Pogba missed training ahead of Tuesday night’s friendly against South Africa. Varane was forced off due to injury in Friday’s 2-1 win over Ivory Coast, who play England at Wembley Stadium tonight. It means that United will be sweating on the availability of the duo for the Premier League clash.

England manager Gareth Southgate has said that club form is a ‘factor’ in being selected for the Three Lions squad amid criticism for leaving out certain Leicester City players.

There were no City players called up to the squad for the current international break, despite both James Maddison and Harvey Barnes returning to form in recent months. Southgate’s decision not to give Maddison a first call-up since 2019, in particular, has led to criticism from fans.

However, Southgate has hinted that continuing their good form could be key in earning themselves a place in the World Cup squad at the end of the year.
