It’s not often these days that young players make their name wearing all-black boots. But they are rather suited to Leicester City’s man of the moment Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
There have been a few experiments, but for most of the season, the midfielder has been sporting a jet-black Adidas pair. Nowadays, when a rainbow of colours are on offer to players, black boots are something of a throwback to a bygone era.
There is a reputation that comes with them: black-boot wearers are not flashy, but are determined, in-your-face, and hard workers. As Brendan Rodgers’ high-pressing box-to-box man, Dewsbury-Hall’s play style fits nicely with the stereotype.

Kasper Schmeichel has said that Leicester City are still ‘reaping the rewards’ of the work done by former manager Nigel Pearson.
The now Bristol City manager had two spells at the club, leading City to the League One title in 2019 and the Championship play-offs a year later. He then left for Hull City before returning to the club 18 months later to lead them to the Championship title and a miraculous escape from Premier League relegation.
Since the departure of Pearson, City have continued the success, lifting the Premier League title, the FA Cup and playing both Champions League and Europa League football. Some of that success has been put down the building blocks put in by Pearson.
