Leicester City midfielder's future growing more uncertain with clubs interested

Boubakary Soumare's Leicester City future is growing more uncertain with the midfielder attracting interest over a summer switch.

Soumare has only been with City for one season, following a £17m transfer from Lille last summer, but his struggles in his maiden campaign could see him move during this transfer window. It is understood there are clubs interested in the 23-year-old, but no side is yet in advanced talks with City over a deal.

In French media, Monaco have been named as a suitor but while there were reports on Tuesday that he had visited the Ligue 1 club's training ground, Soumare has been working at City's Seagrave base. He was back in training last Monday as part of the first batch of players to report for pre-season.

But it is growing more unlikely that the midfielder will still be at the King Power Stadium by the time the new Premier League season does begin, his future in doubt just a year into a five-year contract. He started just one of the club’s final 25 matches in the Premier League and Europe last term, with Brendan Rodgers choosing to play Youri Tielemans and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall consistently during the busy final couple of months, despite rotating the rest of the side.

Soumare's one start came in the 3-1 defeat at Spurs, after which Rodgers said: “We need more from him. This year has been tough for him and he will admit that himself.

“You see in moments when he makes those bursts and goes forward, he looks a good player, but it’s that other side of the game, it’s that pressing side, that aggressive side, that is maybe unnatural to him that you need to have when you play in the Premier League.”
