Leicester City injury latest as Wilfred Ndidi update given ahead of Brentford opener

Preparations for the new 2022/23 season are now well underway as Leicester City hope to put their injury woes of the previous campaign behind them.

City have had more than their fair share of players on the treatment table over the last few months, with a number of them missing games in the campaign just gone. The injuries, particularly in defence, had an impact on performances in a season where City eventually finished in eighth position.

The new campaign brings fresh hope that the club will have more luck with injuries this time around, especially given the lack of transfer activity so far. Going into the second pre-season friendly against OH Leuven on Saturday, City had just three injury concerns. with two players, including midfielder Wilfred Ndidi ruled out.

The Nigerian could possibly return in City's next friendly, against Hull City on Wednesday night. Failing that, the double header against either Preston North End or Derby County could be earmarked.

Here's the latest on the injury situation as players start their preparations for the new season.

: Twisted ankle

The defensive midfielder missed the final 16 games of the season in all competitions after undergoing surgery on the medial ligament in his knee. He has been working on his recovery over the summer and returned to take part in pre-season.

He has however suffered a set back after twisting his ankle during City's training camp in Evian. That saw the midfielder miss the pre-season clash against OH Leuven, but it is hoped he will return to training next week.

: “We’ve got one or two knocks,” Rodgers told LCFC TV before the game vs Leuven. “Wilf’s twisted his ankle in training a few days ago. We don’t think it’s too serious.
