Leicester City team news v Sevilla: Iversen starts with Schmeichel and Tielemans on bench

Kasper Schmeichel and Youri Tielemans have both been left on the bench for Leicester City’s final pre-season friendly against Sevilla to cast doubt over their futures at the club.

Captain Schmeichel and midfielder Tielemans have both been linked with moves this summer, to Nice and Arsenal respectively, and for what is likely an indicator of the City side that will start the Premier League season, they are only among the substitutes. However, James Maddison, Wesley Fofana, and Harvey Barnes, all targets for City’s Premier League rivals, are in the line-up at the King Power Stadium.

Without Schmeichel, Daniel Iversen is selected in goal. Meanwhile, in Tielemans’ absence, Maddison is joined in the midfield by Wilfred Ndidi and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

There are question marks over how City will set up though, with Timothy Castagne, James Justin, and Ricardo Pereira all in the line-up. It could see Justin join Fofana and Jonny Evans in a back three, with Ricardo and Castagne as wing-backs, but could also be the usual back four, but with Ricardo playing as a right-sided winger.

The team is completed by Harvey Barnes and Jamie Vardy. It’s a 12-man bench for City, but there are no places on it for Hamza Choudhury, Ayoze Perez, and Callum Wright.
