Leicester City face Chelsea transfer battle as Roy Hodgson makes Jamie Vardy admission

Your Foxes headlines brought to you by LeicestershireLive on Saturday, May 14...

Jamie Vardy was unfortunate not to play more for England, his former Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson has said ahead of their meeting on Sunday.

Vardy earned 26 caps between 2015 and 2018, retiring from international football after the World Cup in Russia. His first 11 caps came with Hodgson as manager, but the current Watford boss has said the teams the Three Lions faced didn’t allow for Vardy to be at his best.

Ahead of Leicester City’s trip to the relegated Hornets, Hodgson said: “He was excellent to coach. Jamie Vardy is a guy who really is what you see – his enthusiasm, his work rate, his desire and talent of course. You don’t play for England without talent."

Jamie Vardy will not need to sport his iconic cast again after manager Brendan Rodgers said the striker’s wrist was fine.

Vardy made his name with bright blue strapping on his arm during City’s title-winning campaign, but there will not need to be a repeat. The 35-year-old appeared to injure his wrist in the win over Norwich in midweek, when Rodgers said it was sore, but there is no significant damage.

Rodgers said when asked if Vardy’s wrist was fine: “It hasn’t been reported otherwise. I’ve spoken to Jamie today. He hasn’t complained about it, so it must have just been a blow at the time.”

Wesley Fofana was a late withdrawal from the midweek game, the Frenchman suffering from a tight calf, but he is back in contention.

Brendan Rodgers will have to take on Premier League rivals Chelsea in a fight to sign PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare, according to reports.

The Blues are reportedly "tracking" Sangare - who has also been linked with a move to the Foxes - ahead of the summer
