Jamie Vardy makes Jon Moss comment ahead of final Premier League game for ref and Leicester City

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has said a red card shown to him by referee Jon Moss is one of the things that sticks out from the 2015/16 title-winning season.

With City closing in on a historic achievement, Moss took charge of the Premier League clash vs West Ham, a game that is likely to live in the memory of City fans. Things seemed to be going to plan when Vardy put Claudio Ranieri’s side 1-0 up in the 18th minute.

But, with City still one goal to the good in the second half, the referee showed Vardy a second yellow card for what he deemed as a dive in the Hammers' penalty area. The decision angered both City players and fans, with the striker given an extra one-match ban by the FA for his reaction to the dismissal.

West Ham looked to have turned the game around against City’s 10 men, but a late, late penalty by Leonardo Ulloa earned what turned out to be a vital point in the title race.

In a twist of fate, Moss’ last Premier League game as a referee comes at the King Power Stadium on Sunday when City take on Southampton (4pm kick-off). It’s a game Vardy is expected to start after making his return from injury in recent weeks.

Ahead of the game, Vardy has reflected on the red card, telling Sky Sports: “I think the thing that stuck out that year was getting sent off by Jon Moss.

“I know, it’s bad ain’t it, everyone always brings it back up, it’s a nightmare. I don’t think it was a sending-off, I think my reaction showed that after. But it was all just part of the journey, it didn’t destabilise anything and we managed to carry on and get the job done.”

The City talisman has also reflected on the current season, outlining the importance of finishing the campaign as strongly as possible.
