Leicester City duo hailed as 'brilliant' after historic PSV win

Former Leicester City players Emile Heskey and Danny Simpson have praised the performances of Wesley Fofana and Jonny Evans in the historic win against PSV Eindhoven last night.

Brendan Rodgers' side were able to fire themselves into the Europa Conference League semi-finals, after the defensive duo provided a solid foundation.

Fofana played the full 90 minutes and recorded four clearances, one block, two interceptions, three tackles, eight duels won, three fouls drawn and even a key pass to his name. Whilst his experienced partner in the centre of defence recorded two clearances, four duels won, a 94% pass accuracy and five long balls completed.

It was an assured and composed performance by the two players in an extremely hostile and tense environment at the Philips Stadion, and two of the Foxes' former players have been quick to highlight their roles in the victory.

Speaking in the aftermath of the result against PSV, Heskey stated this regarding the Leicester duo: "You don’t realise you miss players until they return. These two are so solid, cover each other, talk to each other, they’re brilliant.

"It’s Ramadan so Fofana would’ve been fasting at this time, so it makes it even bigger to see Fofana performing like he is at this time. Not just that, when the ball comes into the box, you realise who the characters are by who puts their head on the ball, and these two do that."

Former defender Simpson also commented on the performance of the two players, where he issued the following statement: "Jonny will be happy Fofana’s got the legs for him! He has that calm head though, Jonny makes players around him play better and that’s the sign of a good player.
