Leeds 'will spend good money' on new striker at Elland Road

Leeds United may spend “good money” on a striker before the transfer window closes in September, according to Tim Thornton of Sky Sports.

Jesse Marsch has welcomed seven new faces to Elland Road so far this summer, but the Whites are yet to invest in a new striker during the transfer window.

After missing out on a deal for Paris Saint-Germain’s Arnaud Kalimuendo, with the 20-year-old forward signing a long-term contract with fellow Ligue 1 side Rennes earlier in August, Marsch is still looking for a senior back-up option to Patrick Bamford this summer, with the club having just over two weeks to sign another striker.

Southampton and Scotland striker Ché Adams is just one of the names being linked with a move to Elland Road this summer, whilst Blackburn Rovers and Chile international Ben Brereton Diaz has also been mooted as an option for the Yorkshire side.

Both Marco Bielsa and Marsch had to put their faith in young striker’s Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood at times last season, after Bamford missed a proportion of the campaign through injury, with the club almost dropping out of the Premier League entirely.

And Thornton believes that the club may spend big on a striker this summer, but it won’t be an easy position to fill.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “So, they were looking at options without moving them on before Raphinha left the club.

“So now it’s full steam ahead in terms of trying to get a striker in but it’s not the easiest position to fill.

“But yeah, I think they will spend good money on a striker, and they’ll be looking to get something done as quickly as they can.”
