Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch issues 'reckless' verdict on Raul Jimenez red card

Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch insisted Wolves striker Raul Jimenez could have no complaints about the red card which changed the course of their chaotic Premier League encounter.

Wolves were 2-0 up and in control when Jimenez collided with Leeds keeper Illan Meslier eight minutes into the second half at Molineux. Having already booked the Mexican, referee Kevin Friend reached for his yellow card again, leaving Wolves to play the final 37 minutes, plus eight minutes of added time, with 10 men.

Leeds took full advantage with goals from Jack Harrison, Rodrigo and Luke Ayling, who hit the winner at the start of added time to put a major dent in Wolves’ hopes of securing European football.

“Circumstances with the red card helped us but we had a good start to the half and pushed the game in that sense,” Marsch told Sky Sports after the game.

On Jimenez’s second booking, he added: “I thought it was clear. There was a lot of wild action and you talked about it being a chaotic match. It was probably a tough game to referee. However, he went into the play reckless, so for sure it was a second yellow.”
