Mikel Arteta has set Arsenal the ambitious target of scoring at least 90 goals in a season as his plan for the next phase of the Gunners' turnaround becomes clear.
The Spaniard has led the London club back to the edge of the top four this season, with Arsenal the favourites to claim the final Champions League qualification place. Arteta won his first trophy in his maiden campaign, lifting the FA Cup in 2020.
While the Gunners experienced a downturn in performances last season, Arteta's long-term strategy has begun seeing spurts of growth this term. While they are now set to return to the top four for the first time since 2016, there is still some way to go before they return to the top of the league.
Arsenal last won the Premier League title in 2003/2004, a campaign in which they went undefeated, but two second-placed finishes are their highest placings since then. And Arteta has now made it clear that he believes fighting for the title is the next stop in his long-term plan.
But in order to battle it out with the likes of current title challengers Manchester City and Liverpool, the Gunners boss has set his side a lofty target. Arteta has revealed his belief that Arsenal will have to score between 90 and 100 goals to stand a chance of winning the league for the first time in 19 years next term.
