Leeds United agree terms with Danish right-back Rasmus Kristensen

Denmark full-back Rasmus Kristensen has agreed personal terms with Leeds United and a deal is now in place for him to move to Elland Road.  

Jesse Marsch identified Kristensen, 24, as a key early summer after working with him at Red Bull Salzburg and he is set to arrive from the Austrian club along with USA midfielder Brenden Aaronson. 

Brentford and Borussia Dortmund were interested in Kristensen but “the deal is in place” for him to move to Leeds, according to a source, which is expected to reach up to £10million in transfer fees. 

Kristensen will compete with Luke Ayling at right-back where the Leeds vice-captain started almost every game last season when he was available. Stuart Dallas can also deputise in the position but is out for the rest of the year with a knee injury.   

Marsch could also play Kristensen in midfield but it is at right-back where he established himself after moving from Ajax to Salzburg in 2019 and getting his first international call-up last season. 

Leeds director of football Victor Orta has moved swiftly in the market since Premier League survival was secured on the final day of the season. Aaronson, 21, will add pace and energy to his midfield next season and has been a long-term target which required staying in the top-flight to complete. 

Kristensen will be seen as a transfer coup, given the competition for the full-back. Brentford’s Danish manager Thomas Frank has been in the market for a right wing-back to suit his system of play. Dortmund also showed interest and had previous success with Salzburg players having bought Erling Haaland from the Austrian outfit.
