Leeds: Spain ace ‘wouldn’t be a bad signing’ at Elland Road

Leeds United target Oscar Mingueza ‘wouldn’t be a bad signing’ if the club can snap the defender up from Barcelona, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Reports suggest that the 22-year-old could be used as a bargaining chip in the Blaugrana’s attempts to prise star winger Raphinha away from Elland Road this summer.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Leeds are ‘very interested in the incorporation’ of Mingueza in any potential deal that takes Raphinha to Barca.

That comes after it was disclosed the Catalan giants saw an opening offer of€35 million (£29m) turned down for the Brazil international after it fell well short of his valuation.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano did confirm, though, that Barca are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Raphinha before revealing that ‘official negotiations’ will take some time.

However, Sport also claim that the possible inclusion on Mingueza into negotiations, either on loan or as a permanent transfer, will provide a ‘definitive boost’ to Barcelona’s hopes of securing Raphinha’s signature.

Mingueza started the season as an important member of Barca’s first-team squad, featuring in 11 of their opening 14 La Liga games.

But the dismissal of former manager Ronald Koeman and the arrival of Dani Alves in January has seen the Spain international’s game time dramatically decrease in recent weeks.

The versatile centre-back, who is also comfortable at right-back, has started just once in the league in 2022, yet Jones still believes he could be a valuable addition to Leeds.

He told GiveMeSport: “It comes into what his clause is if there is one. But yeah, it wouldn’t be a bad signing, to be honest.”
