£50m Aston Villa deal with PL rivals 'more achievable than signing Kalvin Phillips'

Aston Villa’s hopes of signing Brighton and Hove Albion’s Yves Bissouma are ‘more achievable’ than bringing in Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Midlands outfit are believed to be in the market for a new defensive midfielder when the summer transfer window kicks in and have already identified their top targets.

Current first-choice engine room operator Douglas Luiz has entered the final 15 months of his current contract at Villa Park and has been linked with a move to Arsenal by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Therefore, it seems as though manager Steven Gerrard has already begun the search for the Brazilian’s replacement at the base of the midfield.

The 41-year-old tactician even revealed that Villa put in an offer for Bissouma in the January transfer window which was ‘turned away’ by the Seagulls.
