Leeds now "trying to sign" £5m "wonderkid" at Elland Road

Leeds United are ‘looking at’ FC Zurich striker Wilfried Gnonto to solve their attacking woes this summer, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The highly-rated 18-year-old has been linked with a surprise move to Elland Road in recent weeks following a breakout season in 2021/22 that resulted in a call-up to the senior Italian national side.

Reliable Sky Sports Italy reporter Gianluca Di Marzio has recently revealed that Leeds are eager to snap up Gnonto in order to provide cover and competition for Patrick Bamford, claiming they have a ‘strong interest’ in him.

It’s believed that the 5 foot 7 ace has a price tag between €4 million (£3.3m) and €5m (£4.25m), which could tempt the west Yorkshire outfit into making a move before September’s deadline.

Gnonto rose through the ranks of boyhood club Inter Milan before departing for Zurich back in 2020 without making a senior appearance as he went in search of regular game time.

And the teenager’s bold decision to depart San Siro proved to be successful. Last season he registered 10 goals and five assists in 35 appearances across all competitions, firing his current employers to the Swiss league title.

Leeds have used the money from Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips’ departures to revamp their first-team squad, and Taylor believes Gnonto is the next player on their wish list.
