Leeds: £52k-a-week star's career now over at Elland Road

Leeds winger Dan James might have played his last game for the club, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Wales international started two of Leeds’ first five games this season before securing a surprise deadline day switch to Fulham on loan.

James arrived from Manchester United last summer and went straight into the team under Marcelo Bielsa, starting 29 top-flight games last season.

His return was an underwhelming four goals and four assists, but he continued to get picked from the off under Jesse Marsch.

In fact, James even came off the bench against Everton last Tuesday, around 48 hours before he signed for Fulham on deadline day.

But James’ departure allowed Leeds to bring in forward Wilfried Gnonto from Swiss outfit FC Zurich, with the Italian becoming Marsch’s ninth and final addition of the window.

Marsch now has several attacking options at his disposal, and they’re set to be needed in a congested Premier League season, but Jones reckons that James’ career at Leeds might be over as a result.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I mean, all signs suggest that that’s it for him now. I mean, they wouldn’t be letting him out on loan to another Premier League club, which is essentially going to be a kind of rival in terms of league position to season you would imagine, to then bring him back.”

With James only arriving at Leeds 12 months ago, he has still has just under four years remaining on his £52,000 per-week contract.

Therefore, should the Yorkshire giants be open to selling him permanently, they’ll be in a strong position around the negotiating table because he’ll still have more than three years to run on his deal at the end of the season.
