Leeds: ‘No concerns’ over £22k-a-week star's future at Elland Road

Leeds United currently ‘don’t have any concerns’ over the future of goalkeeper Illan Meslier at Elland Road, with the Frenchman in the perfect situation, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.

Jesse Marsch was handed just shy of £100 million to splash on new signings in the summer transfer window but he also managed to cling on to one of his star men.

According to The Athletic, the 22-year-old is attracting the attention of Tottenham Hotspur as they seek out a long-term successor for Hugo Lloris in north London.

However, it is understood that Leeds consider Meslier to be ‘untouchable’ and currently have no interest in entertaining offers for him.

Spurs are not the only member of the Premier League’s ‘big six’ to have cast an eye over the West Yorkshire star, however, with Manchester United also reported to hold an interest in his services.

Meslier only signed a new £22,000 per-week contract with Leeds in the summer of 2021, which is set to keep him at the club until 2026.

Thornton does not believe there are any concerns coming from Leeds over the future of Meslier as things stand.

The Sky Sports reporter adds that the shot-stopper’s situation is currently perfect for him if he hopes to break into Didier Deschamp’s senior France squad moving forward.

Thornton told GIVEMESPORT: “I don't think there's any concerns about him. He's a young goalkeeper, but the key is that he's playing every week at Leeds. If he were to move elsewhere, would he play every week? So I think it suits him. He'll have ambitions to get into the national side and be a regular there and the only way he's going to achieve that is by playing every week.”
