Leeds 'confident' of striker deal at Elland Road

Leeds United are eager to ‘add quality to their attack’ and there is optimism that a striker will be welcomed to Elland Road before the summer window slams shut, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Having given up a two-goal lead and been made to settle for a point at Southampton on Saturday, Whites boss Jesse Marsch has until September 1 to bolster his squad.

It appears that Marsch, who was appointed as Leeds’ head coach in February, has made the addition of a striker a priority.

According to The Sun, the Whites are lining up a move for Southampton star Che Adams and hoping to secure his services for £10million.

The report suggests that Southampton are looking to secure a higher fee for the 19-cap Scotland international, who played the full 90 minutes against Leeds at the weekend, but there is optimism that a compromise figure can be reached.

The Yorkshire giants are also among a host of Premier League clubs monitoring Benfica frontman Goncalo Ramos.

Meanwhile, Leeds are reportedly close to completing the acquisition of Watford attacker Joao Pedro.

Jones understands that Leeds are keen to avoid a situation where they have a lack of options at the top end of the pitch.

The transfer insider believes that the Whites are optimistic of completing at least one signing ahead of the September 1 deadline.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Ultimately, they want to add quality to their attack and they want to make sure that they don’t suffer a goal drought when Patrick Bamford isn’t around.

“They don’t seem to be panicking over it. They seem quite confident that they will get somebody through the door.

“Time will tell, in the next week, whether it goes all the way down to deadline day.”
