"Leeds are in the driving seat" – Pundit with Elland Road links drops big claim on 25 y/o star
Carlton Palmer reckons that Leeds are in control of the situation regarding Raphinha’s future despite increased speculation.
The Brazil international has been in inspired form since he joined in a £17m deal from Rennes 18 months ago and has already been heavily linked with a move away from Elland Road.
Despite signing Luis Diaz in January and already having both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane on their books, Liverpool are still interested in signing the Leeds winger, who’s enjoying another fine season in the Premier League.
In 20 top-flight appearances this term, Raphinha has scored eight goals and laid on two assists for his teammates, which means he’s been accountable for 40 percent of their league goals.
Raphinha has enhanced his reputation ahead of the 2022 World Cup by scoring three goals in his first seven caps for Brazil to put them on course to qualify for Qatar.
But heading into the summer months, Leeds have a battle on their hands to keep him. West Ham’s £50m January bid was quickly knocked back, but Raphinha also has the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City on his radar.
Raphinha was recently quizzed about his future but admitted that he’s solely focussed on Leeds and said that his contract situation is in the hands of his father, with the Yorkshire giants desperate to get him to sign a new deal, despite having two-and-a-half years left on his current one.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “Leeds are in the driving seat with this one with Raphinha. He’s contracted to the club until 2025, it’s not like his contract is up immediately and they’re in control of the situation.”
