Leeds: £25m deal now 'one to watch' on deadline day at Elland Road

Leeds United have set their sights on signing Wolverhampton Wanderers star Hwang Hee-chan and a late Elland Road deal is ‘one to watch’, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

The Whites have spent close to £100million on bolstering head coach Jesse Marsch’s side, but further reinforcements could be drafted in ahead of tomorrow’s 11pm deadline.

Marsch made it abundantly clear that he wants to add Hwang to his squad when he admitted, following Leeds’ draw with Everton last night, that he is an admirer and the centre forward has ‘been on our list from the beginning’.

It appears the Whites have upped the ante in their pursuit as, according to The Athletic, they have lodged in enquiry with the transfer deadline looming.

The report suggests an informal proposal worth £17million has been turned down by Wolves, with the payment structure not to their liking as they look to hold onto the 47-cap South Korea international.

It comes after it had initially been reported that Hwang was on the market for £15million, with Everton rivalling Leeds for the striker’s signature.

Wolves boss Bruno Lage has revealed that he wants to fend off the interest, but he refused to rule out the possibility of a move away ahead of the summer window’s closure.

Jacobs understands that Wolves are seeking up to £25million for Hwang, meaning Leeds have fallen some way short of their valuation with their initial proposal.

The journalist believes there is a distinct possibility that the Whites will look to get a deal over the line during the final hours of the transfer window.

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT: “There’s some talk of £15million but, at the beginning of the window, I was told that he was valued above £20million and even a little bit closer to £25million.
