Lee Wallace retires as former Rangers, Hearts and Scotland defender hangs up his boots

Lee Wallace has retired from football, hanging up his boots after an 18-year-old professional career.

The 35-year-old defender has taken the decision after leaving Queen's Park Rangers in the summer of this year. The former Rangers left-back spent eight years at Ibrox after arriving in Govan from Hearts in 2011. He went on to make 256 appearances across all competitions for the Light Blues, netting 25 goals while he was at it.

The defender was a key part of the Rangers squad who made the journey back to Scotland' s top flight, playing in all professional leagues in the country on the way up. With a 160 outings for Hearts before making his way to Glasgow an a decent spell at Queen's Park Rangers after making the move south of the border from Ibrox, Wallace's career boasts well over 400 professional appearances. He was also capped for his country, with 10 appearances for Scotland throughout the years.

His wife took to Twitter to share the news on Sunday. The post reads: "475 professional club appearances, 30 career goals, 10 Scotland caps. Not bad for a young boy from Carrick Knowe! We are all so proud and enjoying having you home for a much deserved break and family time before the next step into coaching when the time is right."
