Lee Johnson had Hibs players dodging KNIFE attacks as Aiden McGeady reveals bizarre pre season training session

Lee Johnson had his Hibs players dodging KNIFE attacks to get ready for the new season.

The former Easter Road boss was sacked last September and replaced by Nick Montgomery, who himself was shown the door towards the end of last season and replaced with David Gray as the Hibees kept up their recent trend of burning through managers. Johnson was nothing if not entertaining, though, and Aiden McGeady has given an insight into his training methods.

The former Hearts and Kilmarnock midfielder wasn't shy in telling everyone he liked to do things differently. And McGeady, who linked up with Johnson for a second time in Leith after playing under him at Sunderland, shared details of just how wacky things could get when the manager brought in an ex-SAS member to run through drills with his squad ahead of the new campaign.

"Lee Johnson did one a couple of season ago when we were at Hibs," McGeady told Open Goal. "We had a session and were told just to come out with our trainers on. He whips over the guy who was like an ex-SAS, bodyguard Marine and we had to do dodging knife attacks.

"No word of a lie. He put you with somebody you didn't really speak to and I was with this young lad. He started off with a few different activities and then 1t finished with dodging knife attacks.

"He was saying 'use your momentum, but come for me' and then deflect his elbow away. Basically everyone was just absolutely puzzled as to what was going on."
