Leanne Kiernan scoops player of year award ahead of huge victory parade

Republic of Ireland forward Leanne Kiernan has been crowned the Liverpool supporters' player of the year, ahead of a huge celebration parade through the city centre on Sunday week.

The 22-year-old from Cavan, who arrived on Merseyside from West Ham last summer, has been a major success for the Reds.

Her goals helped Liverpool to the the FA Women's Championship title, with compatriots Megan Campbell and Niamh Fahey also prominent in a fine campaign.

All three Irish players will be on an open-top bus with the men's team on 29 May for a parade through the city to celebrate the women's title, as well as the men's Carabao Cup and FA Cup triumphs.

Jurgen Klopp's side could still potentially add a Premier League and Champions League to their haul.

"It's been a huge honour representing Liverpool throughout the whole season," said Kiernan after receiving the Liverpool Disabled Supporters' Association Player of the Year trophy.

"Thank you for your support home and away. It's been brilliant."

Kiernan will now hope to help Ireland seal the runner-up spot in Group A as they chase World Cup qualification. She came off the bench in April's 1-1 draw in Sweden.

Ireland travel to Georgia in June before finishing their qualification campaign with a September double-header against Finland in Tallaght and Slovakia in Bratislava.
