Lawrence Shankland to 'turn down' Hearts contract as 'minimal' wage rise can't secure striker's future

Lawrence Shankland is poised to turn down Hearts' opening contract offer, according to reports.

The Jambos striker is the subject of intense January rumours over his future, with 18 months left on his Tynecastle deal. Boss Steven Naismith has confirmed that a new contract offer has been tabled to the striker, who has scored 18 goals already this term. Chief executive Andrew McKinlay has also claimed the Scotland international is in the top bracket of Gorgie earners.

According to the Scottish Sun, the current offer will only hand Shankland a "minimal" wage rise and "will NOT be good enough to secure the 28-year-old’s future." It is also claimed that it does not offer the forward a "significant wage hike". Fans will be desperate to see their star striker -who has been captain during Craig Gordon's lengthy absence - commit to new terms, with rumours linking him to Rangers while other clubs will also be monitoring Shankland's situation.
