Lawrence Shankland to Rangers transfer addressed by an outsider as Bayern Munich hero issues stark money reality
Rangers won't be interested in snapping up Lawrence Shankland this summer, claims Alan McInally - because they won't want to spend "a lot of money to bring him in."
The Hearts and Scotland striker was their key man at Tynecastle once again last term as his 31-goal haul for the club fired them to third spot in the table. Amid his rapidly rising star, the prospect of a move to Ibrox has been floated with the 28-year-old now approaching the final year of his contract in the capital. The Jambos face a tough call on if they should stick with their key man - or sell with Steven Naismith plotting a push on Europe next term.
In Glasgow, Philippe Clement has been focussing on youth recruitment so far this summer as he ushers in a new era to Rangers after a disappointing title tilt last summer - with Hamza Igamane the only new options to lead the line drafted in so far. Former Light Blues' star Kenny Miller floated the prospect of a Shankland being brought in this summer as a "tried-and-tested striker with experience behind him" if Cyriel Dessers is sold this summer.
But speaking to Gambling.com, McInally disagreed with the view of Miller - insisting that looking to overseas markets showed Scottish Premiership clubs were not looking to spend big. He said : "As much as Celtic and Rangers usually have their opportunity to take someone from another club that’s done well, I don’t think that there was anybody that was really outstanding so that the Old Firm would say we really genuinely need to go and get them.
"Back in the day there was a glut of unbelievably good Scottish players available for Aberdeen, Dundee United, the Old Firm and coming down to England. was actually just speaking to someone about this the other day, funnily
