Lawrence Shankland is ON Rangers transfer wanted list as Philippe Clement weighs up move to test Hearts resolve

Rangers could yet test the strength of Hearts’ resolve to keep hold of skipper Lawrence Shankland this summer.

Record Sport understands Shankland’s name is back on the Ibrox wanted list despite manager Philippe Clement previously deciding against launching a move for the striker in the January transfer window. The Belgian appears to have U-turned on that position after losing out on the league title and automatic qualification for this season’s Champions League with Cyriel Dessers leading his attack.

And he could press the button on an official bid before the start of the new campaign - but only if he can raise sufficient funds from player sales to balance the books. It’s likely the Tynecastle club will hold out for top dollar even though the 28-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his current contract and would be available as a free agent in the New Year. And that means Clement may have to find as much as £3million to tempt them into cashing in on their topscorer.

Rangers skipper James Tavernier and vice captain Connor Goldson could be among the first big earners to make way for the raft of potential new recruits Clement has identified along with head of recruitment Nils Koppen. Tavernier is wanted by Turkish outfit Trabzonspor who have already had one offer turned down and are expected to return to the table imminently with an improved bid. The full-back is also a long standing target of former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, who has spoken to his Saudi bosses at Al-Ettifaq about mounting a raid on his old club.
